Route Description

We often look for locations easy enough for our two year-old child to walk by herself. A trip to one of the oldest castles in Slovenia, the Konjice Castle, is a great occasion for basking in the afternoon sun and seeing the town of Slovenske Konjice from another perspective. Older children can walk (approx. 1-hour walk) the path beginning at the foot of the hill. You can leave the car a little further down the road from the cemetery. We, however, drove on, parked the car at the castle parking lot and walked a short distance to see the Konjice Castle ruins.

The first owners were the local lords in the middle of the 12th century. In 1597, the castle was signed over to the Counts of Tattenbachs, who left their mark in the history of this building and its surroundings during their 100-year-period stay there. When the Prince of Windischgraetz became the owner in 1828, the building was already in ruins. The current gradual restoration process will ensure it does not suffer from any more deterioration and can retain its position as a landmark site.

Beli konj pub

Visit this bar and experience cosy live performances in the evenings. Dads, do step into this pub and choose any type of craft beer that tickles your fancy from their menu. The ambiance itself is very horse-like (since the town of Slovenske Konjice is named after horses). We highly recommend this place!

Vita, Olja and Juna Recommend

We recommend a visit to the Terme Zreče Spa to all avid little swimmers.

Terme Zreče Spa is a health, sports and recreation center in the Municipality of Zreče. The complex lies at an altitude of around 396 meters above sea level in northwestern Slovenia below the slopes of the Pohorje Hills. The spa began to develop in 1978 with the construction of the first swimming pool. The acratothermal water (35°C), which springs in the Pohorje Hills, is the source of natural healing factor that fills the pools of Terme Zreče Spa and helps with many ailments.

The high content of calcium, magnesium and hydrogen carbonate in the water, the natural mountain peat and the mid-high altitude mountain climate all have a highly beneficial effect. These recommended methods profoundly help with different conditions such as rheumatic, neurological, cardiovascular, pulmonological and urinary tract diseases as well as locomotor system disorders.
