Route Description
Mirna is a small town with quite a few interesting sights. One of such landmarks is the magnificent castle (the locals call it the sleeping princess), which is currently unfortunately falling into ruin. The Mirna path starts in the parking lot below the castle and goes right by a nice pond with cute little ducks that excite any small child passing by. The Vejar Stream that flows into it goes by a children’s playground.
Our family walked the circular Trimmigo Trim Track from the village of Mirna to Gorenja vas. The trail is 6 kilometers (3.12 miles) long and winds through the forest. The terrain is suitable for mothers with baby strollers or children with dandy horses. The track includes 12 fitness stations (11 machines altogether) where you can increase your strength, endurance and stubbornness ;). The whole family can compete in speed, jumps, strength… you name it! You will certainly not be bored. The exercise equipment is evenly spaced along the way, and our favorite was the one where you can test your strength in lifting. At your own risk, you can climb on two hunting observatories.
On the way back, you can hike to Mirna Castle and observe it from the outside.
Interesting Facts
Mirna Castle is one of the oldest castles in Slovenia. It is said to have been built towards the end of the 11th century, together with some of the other most important castles in the country. It was first mentioned in history documents in 1165. In 1962, the ruins were rented for 99 years by dr. Marko Marin who began to gradually restore it. By 1991, he had built and roofed an angular tower and the castle granary.

This part of Slovenia has many different water parks/spas you can choose from. What would you prefer: Šmarješke Toplice Spa or Dolenjske Toplice Thermal Spa? It is a tough decision indeed! :)
Nearby is the Aladdin ZOO Ranch, where they have a huge playground and very interesting animals.
Water slides, pools and ice cream never fail to cheer everyone up! :)
