Route Description
Kurešček (826 m/2709 feet above sea level) is a hill above the town of Ig, towering over the southern slope of the Ljubljana Marshes. The Church of Mary, Queen of Peace (renovated in 1990) stands proudly on its top. There are two possible roads to Kurešček: from the north through the town of Ig or from the south through the village of Rob. The Mokrec Hill (1,059 m/3,474 feet above sea level) stands in the western direction, the Turjak Castle (542 m/1,778 feet above sea level) and the Gora Hill (748 m/2,454 feet above sea level) with the St. Achatius Church in the eastern direction. At the foot of the Kurešček hilltop, there is also a mountain lodge where they serve refreshments.
The easiest way to find the starting point of the hike is to type the address “Zapotok 8c, 1292 Ig'' into the navigation. You can leave your car at a huge parking lot at the local alpine club. The hiking trail is well marked with wooden educational boards. At a small and dammed stream, you can fill your water bottles, then pass the monument to the National Liberation War and stroll over the forest clearing. We got lost because we were "seduced" by a board pointing to an herb garden, which was so beautiful, straight of a fairytale and full of colorful butterflies. The trail is narrow, steep and goes through a forest; therefore, it is recommended to use tick protection. Since we had our 2.5-year-old toddler with us, we needed a little over an hour (and a box of Jaffa cookies) to complete the hike. The terrain is suitable for baby carriers, but not for baby strollers. At the hilltop, there is a church, and a little lower down a mountain lodge, where they have XXL food portions.
Interesting Facts
A little off the trail is a gorgeous herb garden where children can observe beautiful butterflies in the summer.

We were all singing a Slovene folk song written for children about a little Copper butterfly (which is roughly translated below):
Oh Copper butterfly,
you cheeky little guy
where have you been?
Oh, I was busy
on a tiny daisy
drinking nectar.
Then my tummy
all hungry and rumbly,
was soon full!
I said to the tiny daisy:
You make me so hazy,
I’ve had enough!
