Route Description
The romantic Snežnik castle boasts authentic interiors from the second half of the 19th century. It is located just below the Snežnik Mountain in the municipality of Loška dolina.
A stroll through the four castle floors evokes the atmosphere of 150 years ago because rooms boast genuine furniture and other household objects from the latter half of the 19th century. The parlours and bedrooms of Princes Herman and Ulrich, of Princess Ana and the guest rooms are pleasant and comfortable fitted out with a number of originally upholstered historical seating suites and ornamental stoves. The walls are decorated with family portraits, old photos, and prints. K domačemu vzdušju počitniškega bivališča so prispevali klavir, biljard in gledališki kotiček. Gradually, the owners gathered many hunting trophies, including the stuffed bear that has been at the castle for over a century.
Who doesn’t like princes, princesses, knights, lords and ladies? In bad weather, a visit to the castle is a great idea, but if the skies clear in the meantime, we recommend a walk through the beautifully landscaped park. It has a chestnut and linden avenue and two more artificial lakes, which are filled by the Obrh and Brezno springs.
The ancient castle in its beautiful natural surroundings is providing a whole day of pleasant and instructive entertainment. However, you need to pay attention to the opening hours, which are given below.

Interesting Facts
Near the castle you can find Križna jama Cave (Cross Cave), a world-renowned karst cave, whose specifics are numerous underground lakes, different animal species, location of a cave bear, archaeological remains and natural preservation. It is the only naturally preserved tourist cave in Slovenia, so there is no electric lighting and concrete paths in the cave. Visitors receive rubber boots and a portable rechargeable flashlight. Each visit to the cave also includes a boat ride. You can even see the remains of a cave bear. The bones were assembled into two complete skeletons, which were sent to the Vienna Museum of Natural History. The whole family, especially the youngest members, will be blown away!

Mila and Staš Recommend
Both of our daughters loved this destination - a castle, fairy tales, a cave, a boat on the lake and a cave bear! Maybe only a local legend can top this up. There exist many folk tales about ancient witches who still like to ride their brooms during the annual carnival :).
