Route Description
The Logar Valley (Logarska dolina) is one of the most beautiful Alpine glacial valleys in Europe. Due to a high number of natural sights and landscape features, it was protected as a landscape park. This is an ideal location for a family trip!
This time another young family recorded the route while bicycling through the landscape park (you can download a map (gpx) of the route with your phone). The valley is beautiful and definitely worth a visit. However, cars are allowed in and the location is a very popular excursion point for tourists in nice weather. Caution is therefore advised when travelling with children on foot.
The valley is famous for its many waterfalls (around 20), the most notable among which is the 90-metre Rinka Fall. Among the natural features of this area are many natural abysses, rock overhangs, springs, etc. The Logar Valley is an excellent starting point for hikes to the highest peaks of the surrounding Kamnik and Savinja Alps.
At the end of the valley, in the village of Gornji Grad, where the seat of the Archdiocese Ljubljana once stood, a number of cultural sights and historical monuments are on display. For example, the St Mohor and Fortunat Church, the largest baroque sacral building in Slovenia is definitely worth seeing.
To enter the park by car, you must pay an entrance fee of 7 euros. Everyone who enters Logarska dolina on foot, by bicycle, rollerblades and electric vehicles is exempt from payment.
Interesting Facts
The landscape park also includes several more than 2,000 meters (6,561 feet) high peaks (Krofička, Ojstrica, Planjava, Brana, Turška gora, Rinke…), which embrace this picturesque alpine oasis.
The valley is of tectonic origin, finally shaped by glaciers. The results of natural processes in a relatively small area are many natural phenomena such as waterfalls (20), peaks, natural windows, karst caves, rocky outcrops, screes and glacial boulders.
