Route Description

Lake Jasna is indeed a pearl surrounded by the mountain peaks where you can rest your body and spirit and organize your thoughts. The crystal-clear water is one of the most beautiful treasures in Slovenia and is located in the immediate vicinity of the town of Kranjska Gora.

The town of Kranjska Gora is mainly known for its ski resort where the Vitranc Cup takes place in winter, but its surroundings are very interesting in other seasons as well. A family trip to the Upper Sava Valley where the Pišnica River flows into the Sava Dolinka is the right choice for both small and older children. The path from the town of Kranjska Gora to the lake is beautifully arranged, short and safe and thus suitable for baby strollers and toddlers.

Especially in recent years, the town of Kranjska Gora has become increasingly popular even in the warmer months because you can cool off from the summer heat. Adventure seekers come here to have fun on the summer sledding slide, a bicycle park, numerous cycling trails and the surrounding hills, and mountains that offer plenty of opportunities for hiking.

If you are not one for adrenaline, you can just enjoy the peace, have some rest and soak in the beautiful nature. The path around the lake is nicely arranged, and runs by a small open-air library. The children will love the mill wheel, wooden sculptures, and ducks in the lake as well as a big observatory on the waterside. While the kids are busy exploring, the parents can sit down and have a cup of coffee. Bring a camera, because the surroundings offer a perfect background for memorable photos.

The Jasna Lake lies only 1.5 km (0.16 miles) from the town of Kranjska Gora, next to the road leading to the Vršič Pass. There is a free parking lot where you can leave your car, or you can stroll on the walking path that begins in the center of Kranjska Gora. We parked in a carpark of a nearby hotel and headed towards the lake on foot.

INTERESTING FOLK TALE ABOUT THE “AJDOVSKA DEKLICA”/ THE PAGAN GIRL...

Once upon a time, a kindhearted giantess lived amid the rocky cliffs below the mountain Prisank. She helped porters on their way over the mountain pass of Vršič. If she saw they had lost their way in snow or fog, she left her shelter below the overhanging cliffs and hurried to the serpentine road over Vršič to help them. She cleared a path through the snowdrifts for the porters and showed them the right way to go.

On their way back home, the porters used to leave bread and wine for the Ajdovska deklica at the foot of Prisank, so she was never hungry or thirsty.

Legend about Ajdovska deklica and The story about Zlatorog.

The stone face of the Pagan Girl in the northern face of Prisank can be best seen from the viewpoint at ‘Poštarski dom’ mountain cabin at Vršič.
