A stroll through our oldest city offers many interesting and varied things. You can climb to the castle hill and extend your walk to the largest artificial lake on the Drava River.

Over the centuries, the Mura River playfully created a natural island, which the locals call the Island of Love (“Otok ljubezni”). Everyone living in the immediate and wider surroundings know of the beautiful and unspoiled nature abiding there.

The easiest way to get to the little mills is to start from the village of Suhadole. Drive from the town of Mengeš in the direction of the Brnik Airport, turn left at the petrol station and continue through the village of Suhadole all the way to the church of St. Clement, where signposts direct you in the right direction. When the asphalt ends, the macadam road across the bridge over the Pšata River leads you to the foot of a lower hill.

The Rupnik Line was built at the village of Zaplana in the period before the Second World War. The Kingdom of Yugoslavia expected to be attacked by Italy and began to build a system of fortifications in the territory of western Slovenia. The line was named after the Yugoslav General of Slovenian descent, Leon Rupnik.

A visit to the Tower of Love makes for a nice family trip, easy enough for younger hikers. This construction was named “The Tower of Love” because a church consecrated to St. Valentine, the patron saint of lovers, is located on the Žusem Hill nearby. 

The Tolmin Gorges are the lowest and probably the most beautiful entry point into the Triglav National Park. The circular path goes through the gorges of Tolminka and Zadlaščica riverbeds.

Goriška Brda Wine Region is stunningly captivating. Excellent wines allied to a picturesque landscape have bestowed on Brda the title “Tuscany of Slovenia”.

Divje jezero Lake (Wild Lake) in Idrija is definitely one of the most enchanting locations in Slovenia. An interesting natural history trail along the Idrijca River leads us to this karst landmark.
